Roselyn Anderson

Roselyn "Rosie" Anderson, 86, a resident of the Lutheran Home the last 20 months of her life, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 2, 2009.

Prior to moving to Cape Girardeau in May 2007, Rosie had lived in Belleville, Ill., her birthplace, for almost her whole life.

She was blessed by the caring staff at the Lutheran Home, plus her new friends in the Special Care Unit and others in the community who touched her life.

Rosie was born Feb. 18, 1922, the fourth of five children of E.W. and Rosa Schmalenberger.

She was a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., where she met her beloved husband, Bob, who preceded her in death in January 1987.

Rosie was a charter member and dedicated leader at Trinity United Church of Christ in Belleville. She was very active in Girl Scouts and PTA and was a founding charter board member of the NFED (National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias).

After her children were in school, she began a career as a schoolteacher for 20 years.

She leaves as her pride and joy a legacy of five children and their spouses, Ken and Ingrid Leask of Aurora, Ill., Mike and Pam Wagner of Bellevue, Wash., Bill and Marta Butts of Belleville, Dave and Jan Anderson of Cape Girardeau, Jim and Susan Anderson of Bettendorf, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and 25 (soon to be 27) great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her family, Rosie had a wonderful circle of friends who continued to support one another through the years and especially enjoyed square dancing and playing bridge together. She will be missed by all those she loved.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home in Belleville and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ in Belleville.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Valhalla Gardens of Memory in Belleville.
