Animals adopt us

I AGREE with the adopting of pets. My son has his companion that we adopted in 1997, after she had adopted us. She has moved with him and been his constant companion. I adopted my own pet in 1998. Both were spayed. Both have been a blessing. Stop by the Humane Society and see which animal adopts you.

A true Christian

WHY MUST people continue to mix religion and politics? I know people who no longer attend church because of political preaching. I know people who no longer attend church because they were treated differently when others found out that they did not share the same political beliefs. I happen to be one of those people. What happened to having an open door, an open heart and an open mind? Isn't that being a true Christian?

Lucrative taxes

CONSIDER HOW many smokers there are in America. If all these smokers quit tomorrow, the government would be scrambling like mad to figure out what it can tax all Americans for to make up for the lost revenue from cigarette taxes. Does anyone really believe our government wants to abolish smoking? If so, you are living in la-la land.

Funny comment

THIS IS too funny. Paranoid imaginations predict future movements to make birth control illegal just because some people question why birth-control measures are not used to limit abortions? I'm still laughing at that.

Weigh in before take-off

I WAS calling in response to the article in the paper about obesity and the effect on fuel costs for the airlines. The way to solve that problem would be to have a scale at the counter. When you check in, you would weigh yourself, and that's how much your ticket would cost. It's not fair to us skinny people that we have to pay more money for our tickets.

Real patriots

THANK YOU, God-fearing, baby-loving, conventional-marrying, meat-eating, gun-owning, catfishing, deer-hunting, car-racing, hard-working, football-watching, commie-hating, flag-waving real Americans. We still have a great country.

Paying for medicine

I HAVE a question for the powers that be about insurance and the high cost of prescription drugs. I picked up my medicine yesterday. With my insurance co-pay, it went up $20. I now pay almost half of what the drug costs without insurance. Can someone please tell me how the state pays Medicaid pharmacy bills? Are they priced the same as what we pay? If they're at a lower price, why can't we get a lower price? Without my medication, I'm going to cripple up and die, but I can't afford to buy my medication.

A blessed nation

THANK YOU to Deborah Hasheider, a Cape Girardeau resident, who wrote "A display of patriotism." This was a wonderful event. Thank you, Deborah, for sharing this with us. This is the United States of America I know and love. This is the way the heartland is. God bless America, and may we all pull together by supporting our troops and supporting those who have helped us in the past. Let's pull together as a nation. Let's put aside petty differences and fight this war on terrorism together and stand proudly and always salute our flag and sing "God Bless America" from the bottom of our hearts, because we are the most fortunate, blessed nation in the world.

Helping with voting

THE PEOPLE at the polls made it very easy for those who were limited and could not come in. If handicapped voters would make their needs known, one poll worker from each party would go out to help them vote. Sometimes you have to speak up and let your limitations be known, because they will do everything they can to help you vote.

Hatless dining

WHETHER YOU take your lady to Taco Bell, N'Orleans, Burger King or Outback, when you sit down at the table to eat, take your baseball cap off, Bubba.
