Beatrice "Miss Bea" Mayfield, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Heartland Care and Rehab Center.
She was born Feb. 8, 1920, at Scopus, Mo., daughter of Pervis and Sarah Pulliam Crites. She and Ernest M. Mayfield were married in 1939 in Bollinger County, Mo. He died May 17, 1978.
Miss Bea worked at the former Sands Motel from 1978 to 1995, retiring at age 75. She lived the past seven years at Heartland Care and Rehab Center and received excellent care from the staff and all employees.
She cared for her disabled husband from 1963 until his death in 1978. She was of the Baptist belief.
Survivors include three sons, Donald (Barb) Mayfield of Festus, Mo., Bill D. Mayfield of Cape Girardeau, Kenny Mayfield of St. Louis; a daughter, Sandy Ackerman of Alton, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Marilyn Mayfield of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Imagene Lincoln of Scopus; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bob Mayfield; a brother, Hobie Crites, who died in World War II at the age of 18; and a sister, Ive Crites Seabaugh.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 9374 Olive Boulevard, St. Louis, Mo., 63132-3214.
