SIKESTON, Mo. — LaVerne Yates, 93, of Sikeston died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Sikeston Convalescent Center. She was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Clinton, Ky., daughter of Samuel R. and Pamie Lou Scott Vinson. She and Hulett Vernon Yates were married May 25, 1940. He died Jan. 10, 1992...

SIKESTON, Mo. — LaVerne Yates, 93, of Sikeston died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Sikeston Convalescent Center.

She was born Dec. 24, 1915, in Clinton, Ky., daughter of Samuel R. and Pamie Lou Scott Vinson. She and Hulett Vernon Yates were married May 25, 1940. He died Jan. 10, 1992.

Yates was a graduate of Sikeston High School. She had worked at Brown Shoe Co. and J.C. Penney. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Fidelis Sunday School Class and MAGIC Group.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Cooper of Sikeston; a son, David Yates of Millersville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandsons and five brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Revs. Ken Mathes and David Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
