New Salem boys go 1-2 in first day of tourney
New Salem Baptist Academy of Marble Hill went 1-2 in pool play in a tournament being played in Quincy, Ill. Boone Gaines scored 23 points in New Salem's 57-52 loss to Quincy Christian in the first game of the night. Boone Gaines scored 23 points in New Salem's 57-52 loss to Quincy Christian in the first game of the night. Jeremy Rockhill added 18 points.
Gaines, who led New Salem in scoring in each of the games, netted 17 points in a 54-38 win over Mount Vernon Christian. Rockhill added 15 points.
Gaines scored 23 points in a 45-43 loss to Warrenton Christian.

OTHER EVENTS
- Central's eighth-grade A team posted a 48-10 home victory over New Madrid County Central. Taylor Kirn led Central (6-4) with 12 points and Mallory Rhodes added 10.
In the B game, New Madrid posted a 32-20 victory. Amanda Kaverman and Kelsey Teichman each netted six points for Central (1-7).
