The Southeast Missouri State softball team split its two games Friday as the Louisiana-Monroe Mardi Gras tournament got under way. The Southeast Missouri State softball team split its two games Friday as the Louisiana-Monroe Mardi Gras tournament got under way.

Southeast (2-1) beat host Louisiana-Monroe 4-1 and lost to Central Arkansas 8-0.

Freshman Giana Zimmerman notched her first collegiate victory in the opener. She allowed six hits, struck out six and walked three in going all seven innings.

Zimmerman also had two of Southeast's eight hits, as did sophomore Elise Sperakos, who doubled and scored twice.

Southeast was then two-hit by Central Arkansas in a five-inning, run-rule contest.

Sophomores Nicole Troncoso and Carmen Fowler both had singles for the Redhawks. Sophomore Whitney Dupuis took the loss, allowing 11 hits and seven runs in 3 2/3 innings.

The Redhawks have two more tournament games today, a rematch with Louisiana-Monroe and a contest against Centenary. Southeast concludes the event Sunday against Centenary.
