Local boy placed on Babe Ruth all-star team

Ronnie Scott of Cape Girardeau has been selected for inclusion in the 2004 "Who's Who in Babe Ruth League."

A member of the Cape All-Stars, Scott was part of an elite group of players chosen each year. Less than five percent of the total players in the Babe Ruth league are even considered for the award.

Scott will be included in a book honoring him and his fellow all-stars, and his picture and profile will be on display.

The "Who's Who in Babe Ruth League" publication has included such former major leaguers, and Hall of Famers, as Carl Yastrzemski, Nolan Ryan, Joe Morgan, JimPalmer and Rod Carew.

Point to Point races

Of the 117 finishers Saturday, John Kipper and Rachel Schmidt finished first for the men and women, respectively, in Saturday's Point to Point 5K Run.

Kipper, with a time of 16 minutes 41 seconds, beat his closest competitor by nearly three minutes. Schmidt clocked 20:52, also close to three minutes faster than the next finisher.

In the 1.5 K run, Eric Evans and Brittany Moreland had the top times, respectively, for the boys and girls. Evans won the under 10 bracket with a time of 13:29. Moreland was victorious in the 11-19 bracket with a time of 11:36, the fastest time at the event.
