Bootheel school locked down Friday after report of intruder

HOLCOMB, Mo. -- Holcomb Public School was on lock down late Friday afternoon following a report of an intruder on the campus grounds.

According to Superintendent Jeff Bullock, there was a report of an intruder on the high school campus, which led school officials to call for the lock down.

Initial reports claimed that the intruder had asked a student if she wanted to buy a gun, however, further investigation revealed that the gun claims were exaggerated.

"We did have allegations of an intruder on campus," said Superintendent Jeff Bullock. "At the time of the incident, our on site administrator did ask to keep kids in class until [the campus] could be searched.

"Cameras were observed and multiple angles where the alleged incident occurred and to this point, no intruder has been seen on the cameras."

Bullock said the school official took the proper precautions to secure the safety of the students.

"We were probably overly cautious, but everything is safe," Bullock said.

Local authorities and school staff also did a search of the property and no intruder was found.
