Jackson's girls basketball team opened its season by winning two games Friday in the round robin West Plains Zizzer Classic in West Plains, Mo.

The Indians defeated Ava, Mo., 65-47 and Ponpotic, Miss., 46-32. They'll play host West Plains at 2:30 p.m. today for the title as both squads are undefeated.

Bobbie Jones led Jackson against Ava with 15 points. Lindsay Poole added 13 and Kylie Werner had 10.

Against Ponpotic, Jones again scored 15 points. She is the Indians' only returning starter from last season.

"Considering we've got a lot of new faces and only one returning starter, I saw a lot of good things," Jackson coach Sam Sides said.

Jackson JV wins title

Jackson won the championship of the Notre Dame junior varsity basketball tournament on Friday, beating Farmington 53-43.

Hunter Grantham paced Jackson (3-0) with 20 points and nine rebounds. Jake Leet added 11 points.

Notre Dame defeated Poplar Bluff 48-43 in the third-place game, while Central topped Charleston 53-37 in the fifth-place contest. Blytheville defeated Sikeston 37-34 to take seventh place.
