Area Boy Scout receives Eagle Scout rank

Nicholas Summary of Cape Girardeau, son of Larry and Rebecca Summary, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in a court of honor at the Elks Lodge on Nov. 21.

Summary, a Troop 5 Boy Scout, chose to improve the outdoor classroom at Clippard Elementary, his former grade school. With other Scouts and his father, Summary spread gravel and mulch around the lectern and seating areas to help control water accumulation that caused muddy patches. The group trimmed trees and removed weeds. A lectern and benches were repaired and painted as needed.

The project took between 80 and 90 hours to complete. Mulch was provided by the city.
