Black and white and color renditions of the Oliver House Museum were submitted recently by Jackson students in an art contest sponsored by the Jackson Heritage Association. Depicting the Oliver House from any angle as viewed from Adams Street was the entry requirement for all media except photography.

Categories included best of show; elementary, middle, junior and senior high school; and honorable mention. Each category had a first-place winner with four finalists, except senior high and honorable mention. Jessie Beck of R.O. Hawkins Junior High received best of show. First-place winners were Alexandra Sotak of South Elementary; Holly Bollinger of Jackson Middle School; Jenni Tenholder of R.O. Hawkins Junior High; and Molly Hartmann of Jackson High School.

Carol Horst, South Elementary art teacher, had her fourth-grade students execute the drawings on Missouri Day. Her second- through fifth-grade students discussed the federal-style architecture of the Oliver House.

Judges of the contest were Vicki Lane, Christy Bock, Catie Myers and Susan Crites. The Bank of Missouri awarded $50 savings bonds for first-place entries and a $100 savings bond for best of show. Student artwork printed on notecards is available for sale at the Oliver House, open the next two Sundays, or by calling Cathi Stoverink at 243-4667.
