SIKESTON, Mo. -- Frances Magill Hunter, 95, of Sikeston died Thursday, March 19, 2009, at her home.

She was born March 30, 1913, in Cape Girardeau. She and William Pinnell Hunter Sr. were married Aug. 26, 1936, in New Madrid, Mo. He died July 25, 1996.

Hunter attended local schools. She was the Missouri state champion typist in her senior year of high school. Hunter graduated from the Normal School, now Southeast Missouri State University, in 1933 with a degree in education and business studies. While at the college, Hunter was a member of the Thespian Society and the Delta Delta Delta sorority.

Hunter taught high school business studies in Sikeston and New Madrid. She was a founding member of Chapter HB of PEO Sisterhood in 1944 and served as president from 1976 to 1978.

Hunter was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston.

Survivors include four sons, William P. Hunter Jr. of Memphis, Tenn., Dale Morse of Guilford, Vt., Dr. Sam M. Hunter of Sikeston, Stephen C. Hunter of St. Louis; a sister, Lee Kaempfer of Aledo, Ill.; a brother, Jim Magill of Burke, Va; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at St. Francis Xavier Church in Sikeston, followed by recitation of the rosary.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with Monsignor Richard Rolwing officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.

Nunnelee Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
