Mary Moreland

MOUNDS, Ill. -- Mary Lou Moreland, 80, of Mounds died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Cairo, Ill., daughter of James Lloyd and Josephine Marie Shelton. She married Wallis H. Moreland.

Moreland was a member of Tigert Memorial United Methodist Church in Cairo and Order of Eastern Star.

She was a 1946 graduate of Cairo High School. She had been a service technician with Ameritech.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, James Moreland of Millstadt, Ill., David Moreland of Mounds; three sisters, Jo Jones of Mounds, Shirley Diggs of Cairo, Patricia Lamburth of Tamms, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tigert Church, with the Rev. Kelly Cox officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.
