Evelyn B. (Birk) Puls, 87, of Jackson died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 1, 1921, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Theodore and Addie (Bennett) Birk. She and Edwin R. Puls were married Oct. 5, 1946, in Pevely, Mo. He died Dec. 23, 1998.

Puls was a very active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson and a member of the St. Paul Voters Assembly. She was a member of the Cape Country Club and a charter member of the Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson. She was a charter member of the Republican Women's Club, a past board member of the Jackson Heritage Association, a past board member of the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the American Red Cross and was an elected committeewoman for Ward 3 of Cape Girardeau County. Puls was also a Cub Scout den mother.

Survivors include a son, Van (Pat) Puls of Naples Fla.; a sister, Marjorie Grindstaff of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Doris Puls of Jackson; two grandchildren, Shannon (Katrina) and Drew (Sarah) Puls, both of Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Miles, Gage, Megan, Addison and Ethan Puls, all of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Eddie Puls; a brother, Jim Birk; and four sisters, Helen Reynolds, Betty Myer, Mildred Finley and Doris Williamson.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, 223 W. Adams St., Jackson, MO 63755.
