Wonderful job

I LIVE on County Road 621. The Cape Girardeau County Special Road District -- along with Ralph Phillips, the boss -- did a wonderful job on County Road 621 and the surrounding roads. Sure, they didn't get them all the first night. We didn't expect it. With a snow like that, you can't. But they did a wonderful job. We saw them work through the night. When the snow started breaking up, they were back out again pushing the wet slush off.

Deal with it

IT'S A shame the citizens of Cape Girardeau are rarely happy with anything the city government does for them. Twelve to 15 inches of snow falls and the temperature drops drastically and stays there. Snow does not melt and go away. The city plows the snow so citizens can at least try to get around if they have to. Where does the snow go when you plow it? To the side of the road to open up the roadway. As the temperatures rise, snow begins to melt. Citizens still want the road clear. More plowing and salt. This is how it's done everywhere it snows. Would you rather it not be done at all? Why not stop the crying and deal with winter weather?

Traffic problems

JACKSON POLICE Department might want to patrol around the junior high and West Lane Elementary schools more often when school's letting off. While there today, I encountered a problem while exiting the junior high, cars could not even go out into one direction or the other because traffic coming from the other end toward West Lane from the city was two lanes deep and cars could not even get through single file. There were cars parked on the side and then there are cars in the lanes. If you were to turn left and go back toward West Lane itself, there was no way to get through there either. Accidents almost happened. So maybe the police need to patrol that area more often and make sure people are following the right safety rules and traffic rules.

Cemetery etiquette

LET'S DROP the roses and trees that are missing and concentrate on beautifying the cemetery. A fund has been started to put up a plastic fence. The one that is there is dilapidated. Let's join hands and donate money for the project.
