The National Weather Service's latest prediction forecasts the Mississippi River to go nine feet over flood stage at Cape Girardeau on Saturday. In a prediction issued Tuesday morning, the weather service said the river would continue to rise from 35.5 feet Tuesday night to 41 feet Saturday morning. Flood stage is 32 feet. At around 38 feet, the Broadway floodgate will be closed, and at around 39 feet the railroad floodgate along Main Street is closed. The rising river closed a road in Perry County on Tuesday. The Missouri Department of Transportation said in a news release that Route E in Perry County from County Road 322 to County Road 354 is closed until further notice due to the rising river.
