BENTON, Mo. -- Mary Vanie Treece, 87, of Benton, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.

Born Feb. 18, 1922, in Decaturville, Tenn., to the late Isaac and Lula Boyer Treece, she had lived in Charleston most of her life. She was a member of the Charleston Church of Christ. She was employed with Brown Shoe Co. at Charleston until her retirement in 1987 and then at Buddy's Market. In 1994 she moved to Benton and became a member of the Morley Church of Christ.

Survivors include a nephew whom she raised and who in turn became her caretaker, Kevin Carter of Benton; a brother, George Treece of Millersville, Mo.; four sisters, Shirley Carter, Dora Kalb and Minnie Crumpecker, all of Benton and Nola Edwards of New Madrid, Mo.; also a number of other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A brother, Hyder Treece, preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Charleston. Bill Bradley, pastor of the Morley Church of Christ, will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Unity Cemetery near Benton under the direction of the McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Graham, Henry Schitiwz, Larry Snodgrass, Don Ward, Don Cates and Clint Hoffman.
