ORAN, Mo. -- William "Bill" Halter, 68, of Oran died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Halter was born July 23, 1940, in Oran, son of John Anthony Halter and Bertha Lauck Halter. He was self-employed and retired from the heating/air-conditioning industry.

Halter was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. He was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church of Oran.

Survivors include three sons, Glen Fisk of Chaffee, Mo., William "Wil" Halter of Jackson and John Halter of Apoka, Fla.; a daughter, Gloria Hix of Benton, Mo.; two brothers, John Halter and Albert L. Halter, both of Chaffee; five sisters, Cecilia Walton of Fairview Heights, Ill., Dorothy Dees and Lorena Halter, both of Scott City, Mo., Elizabeth Stubbs of Chaffee and Anna Smith of Ringgold, Ga.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was at 4 p.m. Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Service was at 7 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
