Alexis Cummins

ORAN, Mo. -- Alexis Michelle Cummins, 14, of Oran died Sunday, May 31, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Oran.

She was born July 16, 1994, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Stacey Schlitt and Mark Starnes and Steven and Niki Cummins, all of Oran.

She attended First Baptist Church at Oran and Guardian Angel Catholic Church. She was a sophomore at Oran High School, where she was involved in FCCLA, CYC, softball, basketball, was an honor student and was salutatorian of her 8th grade class.

In addition to her parents she is survived by a sister, Allison Nicole Cummins of Oran; two brothers, Layne Johnson and Ty Johnson of Oran; maternal grandparents, Gerald and Bernadette Schlitt of Oran; and paternal grandparents, Paul and Barbara Cummins of Oran.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, Mo.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ed Carter, pastor of Oran Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery at Oran.
