Town and Country FCE Club helps community

At a recent meeting, the Town and Country FCE Club selected Cottonwood Treatment Center, The Lutheran Home and Jackson Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry as recipients for community service projects. A donation was given toward the new 4-H building to be erected at Arena Park in Cape Girardeau to house 4-H displays during the SEMO District Fair.

Scott County Genealogy Society to meet Tuesday

The Scott County Historical and Genealogy Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the south meeting room at the Riverside Regional Library in Benton, Mo. New officers will be voted in, and projects and events for the new year will be discussed. All meetings are open to the public. Future development meeting at Bollinger Mill

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources will hold a meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Bollinger Mill State Historic Site, 113 Bollinger Mill Road, Burfordville, to seek input from the public about future development of the site. Representatives from the department's Division of State Parks will be there to gather input from interested citizens. Information from the meeting will be used in formulating proposals or options, which will be presented at subsequent public meetings. FCE plans St. Louis trip to see 'Mamma Mia'

The Cape County FCE Clubs are sponsoring a trip to the Fox Theater for the 2 p.m. Feb. 26 matinee of the musical "Mamma Mia." The group will have lunch at the Blue Owl in Kimmswick, Mo. Jackson band appreciated by American Legion

The Jackson American Legion Americanism Committee recently presented the Jackson High School Band with $100 to spend as it wishes in appreciation of its efforts in Jackson American Legion veteran's activities. Present at the check passing were Jackson American Legion Americanism Committee member David Ludwig, band president Dustin Mayfield, band secretary Sarah Dumey, band vice president Mark Strickert and band director Scott Vangilder.

Get their motors running: Super Kids Race Day set

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Super Kids Race Day, co-sponsored by A Small World Pre-School and Burger King, welcomes area youths to participate in the race at 12:45 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Southeast Missouri State University Student Recreation Center. The event is open to children up to age 15, but babies must be of crawling age. Participants receive a Super Kids Race Day T-shirt and ribbon. The top three finishers of each age group receive a medal. Boys and girls ages 10 and up will be awarded separately. Registration is discounted for those who register at the Parks and Recreation Department by Feb. 25. Registration on the day of the race begins at 11:30 a.m. and will continue until 12:30 p.m. For more information call Jared at the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department at 335-5421.

More Cape public library events for February

* "Beginner's African-American Genealogy" will be presented at 7 p.m. Feb. 15 by Zoia Martin. The program is free and no registration is required.

* The library will be closed Feb. 21 for President's Day.

* UnitedWe Read 2005 will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 for a discussion of "The River Between Us," by Richard Peck. The story takes place during the Civil War in Grand Tower, Ill., not far from Cape Girardeau. The discussion will be led by Esther Hartmann, Cape Girardeau Public Library board president and retired kindergarten teacher.

* Poetry Coffee House will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 28, focusing on African-American poetry and poets. Readers and listeners are welcome. The program is free and open to the public. Accomodations for the disabled are available upon request.

University's radio station plans Valentine dance

KRCU will hold its seventh annual Valentine dinner dance at the Arena Building beginning with a social hour at 6 p.m. Feb. 12. A gourmet buffet dinner will begin at 7 p.m. followed by dancing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. with the Jerry Ford Orchestra. Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 8.
