Applications for 10 to 15 jobs at the Procter & Gamble plant here won't be taken Monday by the state employment service as scheduled; the roughly 1,000 applicants who appeared at Central Junior High School yesterday is an adequate number from which to draw, according to the company.

Purchase of the pipe division of Rose Con, located at Scott City, has been announced by Larry Payne, who has assumed operation of the business under the name Rose Con Concrete Products.

50 years ago: June 9, 1959

Band pupils from 36 Southeast Missouri high schools are at the State College this week for a workshop; a group of 160 youngsters are taking instructions with LeRoy Mason, band director at the college.

Dr. Eugene Bahn, son of Mrs. W.C. Bahn of Cape Girardeau, will travel with his wife to Greece in August to accept the position of dean of Anatolia College at Thessaloniki, Greece; a professor of speech at Wayne State University in Detroit, Bahn spent eight years in Europe with the State Department and with the American Red Cross.

75 years ago: June 9, 1934

The housing problem has become serious in Jackson as the day for the opening of the of the shoe factory draws near; every available nook and corner is occupied.

The players of the House of David Club may never mow their whiskers, but they do mow down Bill Sullivan's Capahas in a 9-0 manner on a slippery field at Capaha Park; a rollicking good time is had by all, however, as the night includes an inning of "donkey baseball" played after the regular game.

100 years ago: June 9, 1909

Harold Tallent, who made many friends during his time as elevator boy in the H.-H. Building, was attacked by wanderlust two weeks ago and, with a friend from Jackson, started out to see the world; Tallent and Cooper Lafe, about 16 and 17 years old respectively, have written from Topeka, Kan., telling of the good times they are having.

A new craft is being built in Cape Girardeau at Huhn's shipyards for George Patton, the drummer; it is expected to be ready for launching in a week or so.
