Connell, Arpin tie for first place

Corey Connell and Tyler Arpin both shot 81s to tie atop the boys 14 and 15 18-hole tour division at the PGA Gateway Junior Series event at Dalhousie Golf Club on Tuesday.

Carr Vernon shot an 82 to finish third.

Lofton Hayes carded a 76 to win the boys 16 to 19 18-holes reg. division by four strokes.

Brett Slaten held off Brett Leimbach by a stroke to win the boys 16 to 19 18 holes tour division.

Porch team captures first place

The team of Matt Porch, Tim Porch, Chris Marchi and Jim Duby shot a 62 to win the morning flight of the West Rotary scholarship program golf tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.

The team of Tony Buehrle, David Palmer, Kevin Roberts and Paul Hale was second, while the team of Rick Kennard, Glen Cook, Jim Horrell and Jeff Vanarsdale was third.

In the afternoon championship flight, the team of Terry Godwin, David Lickens, Cord McLauren and Jordan McLauren shot a 54 for the title. The team of Mike Williams, Matt Vancil, Kyle Christian and Matt Christian took second, while the team of Eddie Cato, Andy Riley, Allen Hendrick and Tim Holden was third.

In A flight, the team of Tim Walker, Kirk Burton, Todd Ladd and Tim Winborne shot a 65 for first place, while the team of John McLemore, Joe McLemore, Chris Bader and Steve Young took second. The team of Jason Banderman, Butch Wright, Val Crader and Bobby Kinder was third.

In B flight, the team of Steve Bjelich, Harry Rediger, Moe Sandfort and John Layton took first, while the team of Becky Bomar, Rick Bomar, Shelly Cook and Stacey Cook was second. The team of Doyle Privett, John Shafer, Ken Dobbins and Dickey Nutt was third.

Swinford wins tournament by one

Ken Swinford finished at plus-7 to win the Men's Golf Association's quota tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.

A player's handicap was subtracted from 36 and five points were awarded for an eagle, three for a birdie, two for a par, one for a bogey and zero for a double bogey or worse.

Ron Gosche and Jim Rust tied for second (plus-6), followed by Jim Riley, Jim Goad and Doug Walton all at plus-3.
