A Wednesday morning fire did moderate damage to a vacant home at 509 S. Ellis St., the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said.

A Wednesday morning fire did moderate damage to a vacant home at 509 S. Ellis St., the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said. Firefighters responded at 3:53 a.m. to the blaze, which was brought under control, according to a statement from the department. The cause of the fire was undetermined and the department made no estimate of the value of the damages. Cape Girardeau police spokesman Sgt. Jason Selzer said they found indications the fire was intentionally set but declined to release further detail other than to say there appeared to have been forced entry into the building.
