Salvation Army serving Meals with Friends

Between 4:30 and 6 p.m. Monday through Jan. 28, the Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St., Cape Girardeau, will serve Meals with Friends. The menu includes spaghetti with meat sauce, green beans, pears, bread and butter, cake or pie on Monday; ham and beans or chicken vegetable soup, stewed tomatoes, jello with fruit, cornbread or crackers, and cake or pie on Tuesday; turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, stuffing, rolls and butter and cake or pie on Wednesday; shepherd's pie, mixed vegetables, mixed fruit, bread and butter, and cake or pie on Thursday; and ham, macaroni and cheese, pork and beans, peaches, bread and butter, and cake or pie on Friday. Any individual is welcome to enjoy a hot, nutritious meal at no cost.

Lenten dinners on tap in Scott City

Six Lenten dinners to support parish schools with an additional dinner to support the health-care programs of St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Fridays at the Council Upper Hall, outside of Scott City on U.S. 61. Each dinner includes an all-you-can-eat buffet-style meal of fish, slaw, hush puppies and baked beans. Children under 6 may eat free. Carry outs will be available. The meal benefiting St. Jude's will be held on Feb. 4; meals benefiting the schools will be held Feb. 11, 18 and 25, and March 4, 11 and 18.
