John Allen Holshouser, 65, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, June 22, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born July 8, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, son of Charles Mason and Velma Drucille Allen Holshouser. He and Jan M. Allgood were married Sept. 2, 1972, at Maple Avenue United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

John was a 1961 graduate of Central High School. He was in the Army from 1968 to 1989 and served multiple tours of duty in Vietnam as part of the Airborne Special Forces. He retired as a master sergeant.

He was a bailiff for the Cape County Sheriff's Department 10 years. John was treasurer of Mossback Bassmasters Club.

Survivors include his wife, Jan Holshouser of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Charles (Beate) Holshouser of Roy, Wash., Tim (Billie) Holshouser of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Laurie (Kevin) Essner of Kelso, Mo.; a brother, Tom (Judy) Holshouser of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Graveside military rites will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
