Jackson Legionplaces third

The Jackson Senior Legion baseball team edged Jonesboro, Ark., 8-7 on Sunday to finish third in the Seven-Up Classic in Paragould, Ark.

Caleb Hosey threw 6 1/3 innings to record the win. He struck out six, walked two and allowed five hits. Chad Scroggins obtained the final two outs for the save.

Kyle Reynolds and Evan Watkins each had two hits and two RBIs for Jackson (18-8).

Jackson finished the tournament 2-1, having defeated Blytheville, Ark., 3-2 on Friday and losing 2-1 to Paragould on Saturday. Scroggins posted the win against Blytheville, while Chris Kirkpatrick took the loss against Paragould.

Cape Legion winsfinale in tourney

The Ford & Sons Cape Senior Legion claimed fifth place in the Seven-Up Classic with a five-inning, 9-1 victory against Blytheville.

Jamie Pickel improved to 7-0 for the summer. He allowed five hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Dustin Crowden had two doubles and two RBIs in Cape's seven-hit attack. Jimmy Obermark had three RBIs.

Cape went 2-1 in the tournament and improved to 21-11.

Jackson Jr. Legionimproves to 31-2

The Jackson Junior Legion defeated Calvert City, Ky., 9-1 on Sunday to win a tournament in Paducah, Ky.

Mason Sander recorded the win for Jackson, which went 4-0 in the tournament and upped its record to 31-2.

Jackson's Nathan Beussink and John Bohnsack each went 2-for-3. Beussink's hits included a triple as he finished with three RBIs.

Cape Jr. Legionnotches victory

The Cape Junior Legion defeated St. Mary's of Paducah, Ky., 13-6 on Saturday.

Andrew Hileman allowed just one earned run as he earned the win.

James Diveley drove in six runs as he went 2-for-3.

Cape improved to 18-6.
