The Plaza Tire Capahas managed just two hits Wednesday night during a 5-2 road loss to the St. Louis Golden Spikes.

Plaza Tire batters struck out 15 times against five hurlers as the Capahas fell to 16-10.

The Capahas' only hits were consecutive singles by Kendal Deason and Denver Stuckey in the third inning. Plaza Tire's two runs came in the seventh, thanks to a pair of errors.

"When you don't put the ball in play more than that, you're not going to get many hits," Plaza Tire manager Jess Bolen said.

Ryan Poole took the loss. He allowed five runs, four earned, and eight hits in five innings. Jason Chavez finished up with three hitless frames.

The Golden Spikes are 2-0 against the Capahas this year.

Plaza Tire hosts Fairview Heights, Ill., at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Capahas' final home action will be Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the Golden Spikes.

Graham signs contract

Drew Graham, a pitcher who recently joined the Capahas, won't be with them the rest of the season.

Graham, a Kansas native who played the past two seasons at Louisiana-Monroe, signed a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers organization Wednesday morning. He has reported to the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Gulf Coast League.

Graham played his freshman season at Southeast Missouri State before transferring to Cowley County (Kan.) Community College. He then went to Louisiana-Monroe.

"We hate to lose Drew, but we're happy for him," Bolen said. "You're happy any time somebody gets a chance to play professionally."

Graham was dominant in three relief appearances for the Capahas, allowing no runs and striking out 10 in four innings. He earned a save during the championship game of the NBC Mid-South Regional.

"He's got a really good arm," Bolen said.
