KENNETT, Mo. -- An individual fled from the Kennett police exceeding speeds of 60 miles-per-hour down city streets on Thursday.

According to Major Steve Williams, officer Brian Long initiated the contact with the driver while trying to pull the vehicle over for speeding in the 25 mile-per-hour speed zone on Floyd Street.

The suspect, a 38-year-old male, of Yazoo City, Miss., fled from Long on Floyd Street. A chase began, winding through several city streets. The chase came to an end as the suspect struck Long's patrol car in the right fender above the passenger side front tire. Following the collision, officers were able to arrest the suspect without further incident, according to Williams.

There were no injuries due to the incident and the patrol car only received minor damage, Williams noted.

The suspect was being held in the Dunklin County Jail waiting the filing of formal charges. The individual's name is being withheld until charges have been filed.
