Arena Park will be the site of a Drug Awareness Day this Saturday. The event, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will include hands-on activities for children, demonstrations, educational display, and music and testimonials about saying no to drugs.

The Civil Air Patrol will open and close with color guard performances. Patrol members will also talk about leadership and host team building activities, hands-on aerospace activities, aviation related demonstrations/activities and physical fitness activities.

The Cape County Sheriff's Department will have an Impaired Persons Drug/Alcohol Intoxication Demonstration with special goggles. The goggles give the person wearing them the vision of someone who is impaired because of drug or alcohol consumption. While the goggles are on, the wearer have to imagine what it would be like to drive in that condition.

Teen Challenge, a Christian-based rehabilitation program, will have some of its participants on hand to talk about the dangers of drugs and how their involvement with those substances damaged their lives.

Other scheduled speakers include officers from D.A.R.E., representatives of Vision House, and puppeteer Charlotte Reed. There will be school supplies packets available, one per student, at no cost. Snacks and refreshments will be for sale.
