Missouri housing agency to consider new ethics rules

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Housing Development Commission is weighing new ethics rules after a state audit raised concerns about conflicts of interest.

The state housing agency uses tax credits and tax-free bonds to help finance construction of affordable houses and apartments. A state audit released in June noted ethics issues, including commissioners with business ties to developers.

Proposed changes would require more disclosure of potential conflicts of interest. Housing commissioners and certain agency staff members would be barred from accepting jobs from people seeking state aid. And developers would have to disclose the hiring of former commissioners or agency staff.
