One week remains to register for the sixth annual Scott City Yard Sale.

Sponsored by the Scott City Chamber of Commerce and Women's Club, the yard sale is scheduled for Sept. 4 and 5.

While most of the participants live in Scott City, those living outside the city limits may take part in the sale. Those residing outside Scott City may sell their items for a $20 fee at the caboose parking lot on Main Street, across from the VFW hall.

Those who register by Aug. 13 will have their addresses published in a booklet available to the public. The pamphlet will also include advertisements from local businesses and a map of yard sale locations throughout the city. Though participation in the yard sale is free, listings in the booklet are $3.

Organizer Chaundra Mason said proceeds from the book and rental space in the parking lot will benefit Christmas gifts for needy children in the area.

"This sale brings an increase of visitors into our town, which in turn boosts sales at some of our businesses," Mason said. "Our residents are able to get rid of some things they don't need while more and more kids could have a better Christmas. Everyone wins."

Though not on the same scope at the 100-Mile Yard Sale held along Highway 25 each May, Mason expects a large crowd to attend. About 40 participants have registered. Last year 67 signed up for the yard sale.

"The whole town is excited about what that weekend holds in store for us," Mason said. "I'm confident this will be a record-breaking year."

To register, call Mason at Paradise Flowers at 264-2117.
