Commerce Bank hires commercial loan officer

Commerce Bank has announced the appointment of Wade H. Bartels as commercial lending officer. Roger Tolliver, community bank president for Commerce Bank, Southeast Missouri, made the announcement last week. Bartels has previous experience in commercial loans. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's in business administration.

Cape man honored as sales manager of the year

PEKIN, Ill. -- Trey Curtis of Cape Girardeau was honored as Eastern District Sales Manager of the Year at the 2005 National Golden Harvest Sales Conference. He also received five additional awards, all recognizing him for an impressive sales year. In 2004, Curtis had a 150 percent increase in corn sales and a 41 percent increase in soybean sales. In addition to an over $1 million increase in total sales, he continued to increase brand awareness by adding five new dealerships and conducting various meetings for customers and dealers throughout the area. Curtis has been with Golden Harvest since 2001 as district sales manager in Southeast Missouri. He was recently promoted to regional sales manager for Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, southwest Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee.

Marketing prof named outstanding educator

Southeast Missouri State University marketing professor Dr. Bert Kellerman will receive the 2005 Prentice Hall Outstanding Educator Award on March 2 at a conference in Dallas. The award is presented by the Association of Collegiate Marketing Educators, one of the 10 professional associations of the Federation of Business Disciplines. Officers of the organization nominate candidates for the award, which recognizes those who have contributed to the field through teaching and other professional activities. Kellerman is associate dean of the Harrison College of Business at Southeast.

Sylvan names director for Washington center

Jessica Piepenbrok, the former education director of the Sylvan Learning Center in Cape Girardeau, has been appointed center director of the Sylvan Learning Center in Washington, Mo. Both centers are owned by Columbia, Mo.-based Stanley Learning Systems, which owns centers in Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas.

Nursing professor receives teaching award

Linda Logan, assistant professor of nursing and coordinator of family health at Southeast Missouri Hospital's College of Nursing and Health Sciences, has received the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. She received the award last month in Columbia in conjunction with the 2004 Governor's Conference on Higher Education. Logan has been affiliated with Southeast Missouri Hospital for 26 years, and has been a part of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences since late 1995.

Veterinarian gets top award at convention

Kenneth E. White, DVM, owner of Perry County Veterinary Hospital, was honored at the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association's 113th annual convention on Jan. 22 as the recipient of the Veterinarian of the Year Award. White has practiced at the Perry County Veterinary Hospital since 1970. Nominations for the award are solicited from the nine MVMA districts across the state. A panel of nonveterinarians then judge the applications.
