Brother Donald E. Cox Sr., 69, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Feb. 2, 1940, in Menfro, Mo., son of C. Elmer and Irene Sewing Cox. He married Vada May Wilson on Sept. 16, 1989, in Jackson.

Cox was ordained Oct. 15, 1997. He was pastor 2 1/2 years at Calvary Baptist Church in Perryville, Mo. Don and his wife were co-founders of Mission for Christ Church in Perryville.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Donald Cox Jr. of Cape Girardeau; five daughters, Dana Abel and husband Steve of Fruitland, Diane Kohm and husband Paul Jr. of Perryville, Denise Bohnert and husband Ricky of Perryville, Dawn Stewart and husband, Ronnie of Columbia, Tenn., Darla Cox of Jackson; two sisters, Melba Bernhardt of Cape Girardeau, Dorothy Pohlman of Sedgewickville, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents; a son, Dwayne E. Cox; a sister, Mary Wahlers; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
