GLENALLEN, Mo. -- Virgil V. Underwood, 66, of Lees Summit, Mo., formerly of Glenallen, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at his home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1943, at Glenallen, son of Charlie Floyd and Thelma Jane Deck Underwood.
Virgil was a graduate of Rolla School of Mines with a master's degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of Glenallen Baptist Church.
He served his country proudly in the Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a son, Nick R. (Stacy) Underwood of Kansas City, Mo.; a stepson, Steve (Lisa) Holloway of Kansas City; a brother, Kenneth (Brenda) Underwood of Bardwell, Ky.; a sister, Frances (Dave) Wagner-Thomas of Marble Hill, Mo.; a granddaughter, Mikayla Underwood; three stepgrandchildren; a special friend, Crystal Kelly of Lees Summit; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charley Floyd Underwood; and a sister, Sue Haynes.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Lockhart officiating. Burial will be in Glenallen Cemetery with full military honors.
