All the local high school action from Thursday that was reported to the Southeast Missourian.

Perryville's slim hopes of a football playoff berth evaporated with its 34-6 home loss to New Madrid County Central on Thursday.

The Pirates needed a victory and for Kennett to beat Dexter. Neither happened.

Perryville finished the season 1-9.

Portageville 54, Chaffee 20

The Red Devils finished with an overall record of 1-8 and went 0-3 in district play.

"We held up pretty well against the run in the first half," Chaffee coach Charlie Vickery said.

But Vickery said his team gave up 193 yards passing over the first two quarters, allowing Caruthersville to build a comfortable lead by halftime.

"We just had trouble stopping big plays and tackling in space," Vickery said.

Chaffee junior Andrew Terhune had a big game in the loss. His 10-yard reception from quarterback Jordan Yahn resulted in Chaffee's first score, and later he picked up a teammate's fumble and turned it into a 35-yard touchdown.

Yahn, who was 5 of 17 passing, scored the Red Devils' final touchdown on a 4-yard rush then completed a pass to Terhune for a successful 2-point conversion.

Chaffee finished with 211 yards of offense -- 128 yards rushing and 83 passing.

Tyson Estes led Chaffee with 56 yards rushing on six attempts.

St. Pius 22, Scott City 14

On their first play from scrimmage, the Rams fumbled a snap from center. The host Lancers recovered and quickly scored on a short field.

In the end, Scott City coach Jim May said that early mistake in addition to a fumbled punt on the 3-yard line later in the half led to his team's loss in its season finale.

"We just basically played the whole first half on our side of the field," May said.

The Rams' offense struggled in the first half, he said, in part because of the muddy field conditions and in part due to bad field position.

Scott City trailed 16-0 at halftime, but May said the Rams played much better late in the game.

"We ran out of time," he said. "If we'd had another quarter, I think we could have got them. They played better than us for the first three quarters."

Brandon DeProw got Scott City on the board with a 50-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, but the team's conversion attempt failed.

Quarterback Jamie Scholz completed a 20-yard pass to Alex Eichhorn in the fourth quarter for another score and Garett Schaefer rushed for a 2-point conversion.

Schaefer finished with 26 yards on 15 carries, while DeProw finished with 52 yards on eight attempts. Eichhorn added 17 yards rushing on two attempts.

The Rams finished the season 2-8.
