Southeast Missouri State University lost power on its entire Cape Girardeau campus Saturday. According to university spokeswoman Ann Hayes, power went out about 3:45 p.m. The outage resulted in the rescue of a 19-year-old student who was trapped in an elevator. Cape Girardeau Fire Department Capt. Mark Starnes said when crews arrived at Myers Hall, the student was taking a nap and was not injured. Hayes also said the fire department brought in course lights at Houck Stadium to provide extra lighting for the Southeast football game. Hayes said the cause of the power outage was not known and as of 8:30, the campus had only emergency power.
