The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team suffered its second straight lopsided loss on the road to a Missouri Valley Conference squad.

Indiana State did the honors Tuesday night, crushing the Redhawks 72-28 in Terre Haute, Ind.

That came after Southeast was trounced 72-46 Saturday at Missouri State.

Southeast fell to 2-2 while ISU improved to 4-0.

Tuesday's setback marked Southeast's worst loss on the Division I level and the 28 points are the program's lowest total on the Division I level.

Southeast had not been beaten worse since the 1982-83 season and had not scored fewer points since the 1976-77 campaign.

ISU scored the game's opening four points, and Southeast never caught up. The Sycamores led 37-10 at halftime. Those 10 points in the half are also a program low on the Division I level.

The Redhawks trailed 7-6 early but then did not have another field goal for the final 15 minutes, 41 seconds of the opening period.

Southeast shot 19.3 percent from the field (11 of 57) and 7.4 percent from 3-point range (2 of 27).

Freshman guard Erika Lane led the Redhawks with seven points. She hit 3 of 5 shots and was the lone Southeast player to make more than half of her field-goal attempts.

ISU was paced by all-Missouri Valley Conference senior guard Kelsey Luna with 15 points. She entered the contest averaging 29 points.

Shannon Thomas, a 6-foot-4 sophomore center, scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Ten of her points came in the opening half.

The Sycamores outrebounded Southeast 47-28.

Southeast returns to action Sunday with a 2 p.m. home game against Wisconsin-Green Bay, which went 29-4 last year and made the NCAA tournament.
