No car texting

I'M so glad to hear that legislators are considering a law in Missouri so there be no texting on a cell phone in a car. Anyone caught texting in a car ought to lose his license for 10 years. Then maybe the texters would learn to do what the law says.

Logger drivers

IT doesn't shock me at all to see a logging truck on its side with logs all across a field. I drive through that area every day. These log truckers drive like maniacs.

Rising costs

I am a 77-year-old retiree among the seniors who won't be getting a Social Security raise come January. The government says the cost of living didn't go up. Have the powers that be been to a grocery store lately, or paid an electric bill?

Keeping his word

PRESIDENT Obama said he would bring home troops from Iraq. But he also said he was going to make a bigger commitment to Afghanistan, which he's doing.

Unsafe texting

I would like to say "Amen!" to the suggestion that texting should be illegal for every driver. Yesterday, a woman pulled up behind me, and I was afraid she wasn't going to stop because she was texting and smoking. She hardly knew what was going on, and I was afraid to be near her. We need to eliminate texting completely.

Thanks for help

I'M an elderly person. I live on a busy street. I was trying to get up my steps and heard a voice say, "Can I help you with that?" I looked around, and there was a lovely young woman coming up the sidewalk. She helped me up the porch with my walker. I thanked her and asked her if she had stopped just to help, and she said, "Yes, ma'am, I did." God bless you and thank you.

Stop watching

WHEN my son was little, I would watch TV with him. I watched "The Simpsons" and thought, "This isn't nice. This is kids being rude to their parents and parents doing weird things." I quit letting my son watch that. The Muppets were about all he could watch. Parents should check what their children are seeing on television and get them away from the television. They need exercise.

Costly soldiers

IF my husband read the paper correctly, it costs $1 million for each soldier we send to Afghanistan. He thought was way excessive, I would like to know what our politicians have to say about this. That sort of cost per soldier seems extreme.

Tarnished image

A lot of women are not going to like Tiger Woods anymore. He's tarnished his image. There's no doubt about it.

Casting stones

ENOUGH about the Tiger Woods incident. Let the man have his life. Everybody should remember what Jesus said: "Ye who without sin cast the first stone."
