With six senior starters benched for disciplinary reasons, Perryville was no match for visiting Notre Dame in a season-opening high school baseball game for both teams Tuesday.

The Bulldogs finished off their 12-0 rout with a six-run sixth inning.

Jeremy Brinkmeyer picked up the pitching win, allowing just two hits in five innings before being relieved by Anthony Wulfers. Perryville's Cory Buerck suffered the loss.

Dane Balsmann led the Bulldogs at the plate with a triple and a double among his four hits. He drove in three runs. Brinkmeyer, Blake Essner and Shane Menz had two hits apiece for Notre Dame.

Scott City could not overcome three unearned runs in a season-opening road loss.

Mark Johnston was pinned with the loss after tossing five innings. Johnston allowed six hits and five runs -- three earned -- while striking out four.

Blake Dirnberger had two of Scott City's five hits.

Charleston 13, Chaffee 12 (9 innings)

Chaffee gained a 10-0 lead after three innings, but six errors got the best of the Red Devils in a nine-inning road loss.

Only two of Charleston's 13 runs were earned.

Freshman Steven Dooley, who suffered his first loss of the season, pitched 5 1/3 innings, striking out nine and allowing no earned runs for Chaffee (0-3). Dooley pitched the first four innings and left with a high pitch count and a 10-2 lead. Freshman Josh Stegar pitched through the seventh, and Dooley returned to the mound for the extra innings. Charleston scored an unearned run with one out in the bottom of the ninth to win.

"Steven showed tremendous character, and he deserved to win," Chaffee coach Brian Horrell said. "He did a great job of going back out and bailing his teammates out.

"Charleston kept playing, and we didn't. The wheels fell off the bus."

Jesse Gettings, Augi Orr, Brad Daugherty and Jeff Daugherty had two hits apiece for the Red Devils.

Stacy Peters hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Leopold a season-opening win at home.

Scott County Central led 10-8 before the bottom half of the seventh.

Matt Stoverink had two hits for Leopold (1-0) and was on the mound for the win.

Leopold scored eight runs in the fifth inning to finish out a victory against Scott County Central in the season-opening game for both teams.

Sam Bueter and Cathie Seiler each drove in three runs for Leopold, while Lori Vandermierden and Amber Nenninger each drove in two.

Mary Beth Bohnsack scattered five hits to earn the pitching victory for Leopold, which hosts Oran today.

Will Lindman led Notre Dame with a 39, and teammate Brandon Holzum finished at 41.

Gabe Sauer was Jackson's low scorer at 43.

St. Vincent's Zach Richardet turned in the day's low round with a 2-over-par 37. Jacob DeWilde and Lucas Schumer each carded a 45, and Corey Brueckner rounded out the team score with a 49.

GIRLS SOCCER St. Vincent 4, Fredericktown 0

Brooke Brown had two goals and an assist to lead St. Vincent to a home victory.

Lacey Siegmund and Valerie Richardet also had goals for the Indians (1-2), while Richardet, Jessica Welker and Theresa Mattingly all added assists.

Perryville 3, Sikeston 0

Perryville opened its season with a home win.

The Pirates could not convert on 16 first-half shots before posting three goals in the second half.

Chris Schremp scored a pair of goals and Chesley Marr had the other. Kelley Hadler and Amber Hacker had assists.

Chastity Marr made four saves for the shutout.

BOYS TRACK Central 82, Sikeston 56

Central ruled the track in a home meet victory, winning all four relays and six individual events. Lance Altenthal's win in the pole vault was Central's lone field victory.

Cory Huskey won the 400- and 800-meter runs and also was part of the winning 1,600 relay foursome.
