Two seats change on Cape board

Two faces will change on the Cape Girardeau School Board while the Jackson and Scott City boards will remain the same after Tuesday's election.

Incumbents Sharon Mueller and Steve Trautwein both were re-elected to the Cape Girardeau board for three-year terms along with newcomer Tom Reinagel. Elected to a one-year term was Charles Bertrand.

Incumbents defeated for re-election were board president Charles Haubold and Skip Smallwood.

Mueller said she is excited about being re-elected.

Trautwein said the opportunity to continue working with students has him most excited about his reelection.

"The past three years have been a really satisfying time for me," he said.

In Jackson, the re-election of incumbents Terri Tomlin, T. Wayne Lewis and Mack Illers was overshadowed by the failure of the district's $27 million bond issue.

All three have said passage of the bond issue was their major reason for running for re-election.

"There are a lot of other good things going on that we all enjoy, but the bond issue would have been the major thing going on over the next three years," Tomlin said.

In Scott City, three incumbents were also re-elected to the school board: Sally Porch, Wayne Petitt and William Wilfong.

Porch, who has served two terms on the board, said the six years have been an educational experience.

"We have a really solid board, and I look forward to working with everyone again," Porch said.
