PADUCAH, Ky. -- Billy McGee, who led police on an 11-day manhunt after shooting at a Texas police officer and killing several search dogs, was apprehended Tuesday morning in a Paducah homeless shelter.

"We got a tip from somebody that overheard him say that he was going there," said Terry Long, chief deputy sheriff of the McCracken County Sheriff's Department in Paducah.

Long said that McGee, 44, of Blodgett, Mo., was arrested without incident. McGee had shaved in an attempt to disguise his appearance, the department said.

The department said McGee was arrested just before 7 a.m. at Paducah's River City Mission.

McGee and Joshua Rogers, 19, of Zalma, Mo., were originally sought by Cape Girardeau police early last month when evidence found in McGee's car indicated it might be used for a meth lab. Police then received a report that the men had allegedly stolen a car in Cape Girardeau.

The men next turned up in southeast Texas. On March 25, the men were pulled over as part of a routine traffic stop when they allegedly fired at a police officer in Silsbee, Texas.

Rogers was taken into custody March 28 and remains in jail in Texas. He faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer and burglary. McGee likely will face similar charges.
