River City Players announce auditions

The River City Players Community Theatre announces open auditions for its next major production of the season, "Kander and Ebb's The World Goes Around," Sunday and Monday at 7 p.m. at the River City Yacht Club. The show is a review of the major theatrical songs written by the famous writing duo Kander and Ebb. Songs include selections from "Cabaret," "Chicago," "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" and many others.

Dallas Children's Theater to present 'Coyote Tales'

The Department of Theater and Dance at Southeast Missouri State University and the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will present "Coyote Tales," an original production written, produced and performed by the Dallas Children's Theater at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Academic Auditorium. The show is a mixture of music, dance and puppets based on traditional folklore from the American Southwest and Mexico. Tickets can be purchased at the box office by calling 651-2265.

Southeast launches new humorous poetry book

Four Southeast Missouri State University students and one Southeast alumna will give a poetry reading to launch a book in which some of their poems appear on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Sidewalk Sandwich Co. at 117 Themis St. Shawn McLain, Wade Christian, Dustin Michael, Anthony Bertram and Marybeth Rhodes all contributed to the book. Titled "Asinine Love Poetry," the collection is a tongue-in-cheek look at love and lack of it. The book will be on sale at the reading and is available at Barnes & Noble.

Music fraternity will present open-air concert

Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity will present Rose Jam on April 23 starting at 2 p.m. This free open-air concert will celebrate music in the Cape Girardeau region by featuring area bands and an appearance by Rowdy the Redhawk. Food will be available. The event will be held on the band field behind Brandt Music Hall on the Southeast Missouri State University campus.

Current River Boys and Just Us to perform

WAPPAPELLO, Mo. -- This weekend's featured performers at the Lake Wappapello Outdoor Theatre will be The Rodermans and The Current River Boys tpday and Just Us on Saturday along with The Cloud Family. Both performances start at 6:30 p.m. at the Theatre located on Route T, south of the dam. For more information call (573) 222-8083.

Sundays at Three to present Cantus Choralis

In its final concert of the series, the Sundays at Three chamber music group will present Cantus Choralis, a choral ensemble, at 3 p.m. April 24 at Old St. Vincent's Church. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling the box office at 651-2265.

Guitar Ensemble to play free recital Monday

The Department of Music at Southeast Missouri State University will present the Southeast Guitar Ensemble in concert Monday at 8 p.m. in the Lutheran Chapel on the university campus. The concert is free and open to the public. For more information call the Department of Music at 651-2141.
