Carol Jean Smith, 69, of Fruitland died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at her residence. She was born Nov. 20, 1940, in Granite City, Ill., to John Carl and Rose Milan Leonard. She and Don Smith were married Nov. 3, 1962, at Granite City. Survivors include her husband, Don Smith of Waterford, Mich.; one daughter, Carol Smith of Worcester, Mass.; two brothers, Richard Smith and Jimmy Leonard, both of Texas; and two sisters, Joan Farless of Granite City and Della Copeland of St. ...

Carol Jean Smith, 69, of Fruitland died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010 at her residence.

She was born Nov. 20, 1940, in Granite City, Ill., to John Carl and Rose Milan Leonard. She and Don Smith were married Nov. 3, 1962, at Granite City.

Survivors include her husband, Don Smith of Waterford, Mich.; one daughter, Carol Smith of Worcester, Mass.; two brothers, Richard Smith and Jimmy Leonard, both of Texas; and two sisters, Joan Farless of Granite City and Della Copeland of St. Louis; two grandchildren, John (Jordan) Smith, of Fruitland, Don (Christina) Goertz of Cape Girardeau; and four great-grandchildren, John E. Smith, Raiden Wade Smith, Natalie Metzger, Destiny Goertz and Melanie Goertz.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Barry Pfanstiel officiating.
