American Legion Post 158 of Jackson sincerely thanks everyone who attended the U.S. Air Force Shades of Blue Jazz Ensemble concert Feb. 11 at the Jackson High School event center.

It was a great evening of jazz and patriotic music performed by a group of talented musicians. The theme was "Salute to Veterans." Highlights included recognizing some World War II veterans. Edward Bender was a command pilot for a B-25 bomber. His plane became damaged, and he was captured. He then became a prisoner of war. Another World War II veteran was James Nelson, who also was a command pilot of a B-25. He received both the U.S. Air Force wings and Navy pilot wings. Nelson spent 35 years as an educator and principal for the Jackson School District.

We appreciate the good articles by reporter Darren Burgfeld and his coverage of the concert. He provided readers with a great description of the jazz concert and the special evening events.
