A Dunklin County, Mo., man in jail charged with assaulting and abusing an infant as he changed her diaper will face a jury this spring. David Kimball Jr., 22, pleaded not guilty before Judge Stephen Sharp on Wednesday in Dunklin County and will go to trial May 6 in Kennett, Mo. Kimball was arrested Dec. 15 and charged with felony first-degree assault and child abuse. According to police, Kimball broke the child's right leg as he changed her diaper in September but never reported the injury to her mother. The 1-month-old girl was taken to three hospitals until the broken femur was diagnosed in October. Kimball later apologized to the mother and told her it was an accident. He is jailed on $150,000 bond.
