Got my vote

THIS is in regard to what Dick Cheney said about President Obama being just a one-term president. I would say that whatever he accomplishes in his one term would be far greater than what George Bush tried to do in his eight years. I'd still vote for Obama any day of the week compared to what the Republicans have to offer.

No pension

I see where former Illinois governor George Ryan has been denied his pension for holding office. This is something that should be a federal law. If any politician violates his office, he should be denied all retirement compensation forever.

School bonds

I support the bond issue for the Cape Girardeau School District. There are many needs, including a new roof at Clippard Elementary School, classrooms at the high school and a stadium. Central High School needs to have its own stadium. We need to take pride and ownership of our schools and vote for this bond issue. Your taxes will not go up. If it fails, taxes will not go down right away. Find out exactly what's included in the bond issue and why it's needed.

Cemetery volunteers

I want to thank all the volunteers at the Cape Girardeau County Archives for their hard work in cleaning and clearing out some of the oldest cemeteries, some long forgotten, in Cape Girardeau County. God bless you.

Better place

I'M thinking of my mother today on her birthday, and I miss her. But no matter how much I miss her, I know where she is, and I wouldn't call her back to this world for all the money in it.

Do your job

AMERICA'S future is at risk. I think President Obama has done as good a job as anyone could. Politicians need to focus on America and stop acting like teenagers. Republicans, vote your heart for the good of our country, not your political future. I'm tired of negative speeches.

Trashy eyesore

I would like to make a comment on how trashy Cape Rock Drive is on Snake Hill. Have you seen all the trash on the side of the road? What an eyesore.

Lunchroom noise

I was recently visiting my granddaughter at lunch at Orchard Elementary School in Jackson and was shocked by all the noise and children running around. No teacher or principal was in sight. The two girls in charge were hollering, and the children wouldn't listen. I thought that there would be at least one teacher in the lunchroom. What happened to discipline and good manners?

Health care

DANNY Williams is the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He recently had heart surgery in Miami instead of getting free health care in Canada. The premier paid for heart surgery in the U.S. instead of getting free socialized health care in Canada. If the U.S. switches to socialized medicine, will we give free health care to Canadians? And after our health care becomes like Canada, where will we go for heart surgery?

Taxing ideas

SUBSTITUTING sales taxes for income taxes is a bad idea. Governments should use their revenue to smooth out the ups and downs of the economy. The one tax that follows the economy the closest is the sales tax. With a required balance budget, right when the state needed the revenue the most it would get the least. Tax property instead.
