Bad choices
SO-CALLED leaders at Southeast Missouri State University are starting to blame the poor economy for the budget cuts that will occur in the coming years. They are probably half right, but much of the cuts will occur because of bad choices -- River Campus, aquatic center, fountains, golden parachute for a former president -- made in previous years. Given the bad choices that were made, some administrators should be made to walk the plank.
Three branches
A recent caller said the president was the boss. Contrary to that assertion, we have three branches of government.
Wonderful choir
CONGRATULATIONS to the Lutheran Messiah Choir for the wonderful concert last month. All the beautiful voices were raised in song to the Lord. The audience enjoyed an afternoon of great solos and choral singing and even joined in the finale of the "Hallelujah Chorus." Way to go, choir.

Busy mayor
I do a lot of business at city hall in Jackson. I noticed our mayor is in there most of the time. We're so lucky she takes such an interest in our city. Keep up the good work, Barb. You're very much appreciated.
No, thanks
AS a lifelong Democrat in my family of lifelong Democrats, I am disgusted with the Democrats. The Republicans aren't much better, but the Democrats have gone the wrong way. President Obama, please read my lips. I voted for you, and I regret it. I am so sorry that the government has changed the way it has. We're turning into a socialist country. I don't want you in my health care. I don't want you in my business. It's my business. I don't need you in it. You can't run anything right. Medicare and Medicaid are failing. The postal service is failing. Stay out of health care.
County zoning
CAPE Girardeau County needs more zoning and building codes and inspections. I examined a house and shop in Fruitland. The house has mold, termites and septic-tank problems. It's been for sale for two years. I feel I was being taken advantage of by the owner, who didn't disclose those things to me. We need stricter enforcement.
Highway cleanup
IT looks like those who adopt a highway need to be working on cleaning up the highway. It's nasty on I-55 south of Fruitland. It's spring -- time to get out.
