Two men were charged Friday in connection with break-ins at two Cape Girardeau pharmacies.

Carlos Miniel, 17, of Cape Girardeau and Charles Dobyns, 20, of Benton, Mo., were charged with second-degree burglary and felony stealing in connection with incidents at John's Pharmacy, 2001 Independence St., and attempted burglary at Broadway Prescription Shop, 710 Broadway.

The first burglary occurred shortly before midnight Thursday at John's Pharmacy. Cpl. Adam Glueck, spokesman for the Cape Girardeau Police Department, said officers arrived after an alarm sounded at the business. Police found windows broken, a door damaged and prescription medication stolen.

Around 3 a.m. Friday police again responded to a pharmacy break-in, this time after a caller alerted officers that a burglary was in progress at Broadway Prescription Shop. When police arrived on the scene they discovered a door damaged and Dobyns attempting to break in, though no medication was stolen, Glueck said.

Police arrested Dobyns, who the caller said was believed to have been connected with a vehicle that drove away from the scene. Officers later stopped the vehicle and its driver, Miniel.

Both suspects remain in the Cape Girardeau jail.

Police say an investigation continues into whether the suspects were involved in additional area burglaries.
