Eugene E. Myers, 89, of Jackson passed away Friday, March 5, 2010, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.

He was born June 28, 1920, in Vincennes, Ind., son of John F. and Nora B. Pfaff Myers. He and Eunice L. Eiler were married Sept. 15, 1949, in Vincennes.

Mr. Myers worked for the former B & O Railroad as head brakeman from Dec. 7, 1941, to 1943.

He was a veteran of World War II, having been inducted into the United States Army Air Force on Sept. 23, 1943, and honorably discharged Nov. 5, 1945, as a flight officer.

In 1954 he went to work for Brown Shoe Co. in St. Louis and worked as a manufacturing supervisor until his retirement in 1984. Myers and his wife moved to Jackson in 1994 and became members of New McKendree United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Jackson American Legion Post 158.

Loving survivors include his wife of 60 years; a son, Eugene "Gene" (Frances) Myers II of Jackson; four daughters, Dana (Roy) Woolf of Lewisville, Texas, Belita (Jens) Brammer of Jackson, Debby (Doug) Lich of Ironton, Mo., Candyce (Kelly) Burlison of Fredericktown, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Vanita M. Lane.

A graveside service will be held at 2:45 p.m. Monday at Russell Heights Cemetery, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. A full military honors service will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospital in St. Louis.
