The season is less than three weeks old and the Southeast Missouri State baseball team already has had a bad run of luck with injuries.

Southeast has suffered its second season-ending injury of the young campaign to a starting player.

Junior college transfer second baseman Taylor Heon is out for the remainder of the year with a knee injury that will require surgery.

Heon was upended while turning a double play early during a home game against IndianaPurdue-Fort Wayne (IPFW) last weekend. He had to be helped off the field, and over the last few days came the diagnosis that Heon had suffered serious ligament damage.

Heon had started the Redhawks' first six games at the time of the injury. He ends his rookie campaign at Southeast batting .368 with six RBIs.

There is a chance that Heon can receive a medical redshirt, meaning he would regain this season of eligibility and still have two years left at Southeast.

Previously having suffered a season-ending injury was senior center fielder Nick Harris, a starter since his freshman campaign and a player who ranks high on many of the program's career records lists.

Harris injured his elbow making a throw during pre-game warmups prior to Southeast's second contest of the year, Feb. 20 at Auburn. He is eligible for a medical redshirt.

Meanwhile, junior third baseman Trenton Moses remains sidelined with a shoulder injury suffered while diving back to first base during Southeast's fourth game of the season last weekend against IPFW.

Moses, an Advance High School graduate and a starter since his freshman year, is being evaluated and is sidelined indefinitely.
